Brett Manwaring

Managing Director

Brett Manwaring is a Managing Director in the Forensic Investigations and Intelligence practice, based in New York. Brett leverages more than 20 years of financial services industry experience specializing in financial crime prevention, anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions and regulatory matters affecting foreign and domestic banks, custodians and gaming companies.

Prior to joining Kroll, Brett served as a Managing Director with a consulting firm, where he assessed entities and institutions to ensure compliances with AML and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations.

Brett has led some of the largest transaction lookback engagements under the direction of federal regulators. He also holds the distinction of being a regulator-selected multiyear monitor to a sports-wagering entity in Las Vegas, which included services related to sportsbook BSA/AML compliance programs.

For several years, Brett was the Engagement Lead responsible for reviewing a population of 50.6 million transactions resulting from a consent order approved by The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB). The project included upwards of 35 investigative workstreams and over 200 full-time staff. The project investigations resulted in over 20,000 escalations to the bank for suspicious activity report (SAR) consideration and a final report submitted to the FRB Supervisory team.

Brett has also functioned as a Lead Subject Matter Expert on behalf of several bank compliance groups for the implementation of transaction monitoring (TM) systems. In addition, he has advised various institutions ranging from trusts to retail banks and crypto exchanges on the selection of TM tools and technology.

Brett also independently validated TM system(s) for various institutions. The validation includes an overall review of governance and management, model documentation, model implementation and testing, alignment of AML scenarios with the bank’s risk assessment, data integrity validation, rules validation and evaluation of the alert review process. The process has since been formalized in the New York State Department of Financial Services “DFS” Superintendent’s Regulation 504.

Brett is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where he earned an MBA in finance and a B.S. in finance.
